Sidra Iqbal’s Relentlessness to Empower the Youth & Females in Pakistan is Remarkable
Sidra Iqbal is an accomplished Pakistani TV & Radio, anchor, Journalist, Brand Activist, and Youth development advocate. She produces and hosts a TV show that airs on AAJ news channel, called ‘The Morning Show’. Sidra won a scholarship to go attend The International Relational Summer Program at Oxford University in 2007. Due to her interest in International relations, training, and education, she holds an enormous responsibility to empower and educate females and the youth and has been inspiring throughout her means of doing so.
Sidra showed her support for women engaged in sports by attending the Women’s Cup 2021 in Karachi. She wants women to break the stereotype that has been embedded globally, even more so in Pakistan which has given many young women the courage to engage in sports on a local level. She often speaks out against gender-based violence, for example by attending a US Embassy-led discussion in Islamabad, discussing the importance of the ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’. Additionally, Sidra hosted a conference in Islamabad highlighting the progress of rural women in their financial independence. She named the conference, “Rural Women Rising”, empowering women in many similar contexts. With this, she spread her influence and motivation across different cities in Pakistan, educating women on the value of education and independence. Similar to this endeavor, Sidra engaged in a discussion under the titles, #YesICan and #ISpendMyOwn, which revolved around the financial independence and literacy of women in Pakistan. “Every woman should have the autonomy to spend and invest her money how she sees fit,” stated Iqbal. It is the cause of Sidra’s exceptional use of her life activity that she is seen as an emblem of hope for Pakistani women constantly paving the way for women to pursue practical careers despite the challenging conditions they may be facing. Sidra ensures to be part of important conversations, such as the female-only panel she hosted on behalf of TCF where decorated Pakistani women, such as Mahira Khan and Riffi Khan shared their journeys and addressed the importance of celebrating and empowering women. Sidra’s efforts to empower people have been seen from the earliest points of her career. She has represented the youth at numerous global forums, such as in Japan, Cyprus, and Australia. Efforts like these, allowed Sidra to be selected for initiatives, such as ‘Women as Global Leaders’.
Due to being an exceptional leader by example, she has received many accolades in her empowering journey, such as the GR8 Women Award for Journalism in 2014. All in all, Sidra Iqbal has paved the way in empowering women of all statuses by helping spread education amongst women in impoverished and difficult circumstances. Sidra’s focus on violence against women and attending significant policy-changing conversations helps set her apart and allows her to continuously expand the benchmark for this cause. Her journey is nothing short of inspirational, especially as we note the effect it has had on Pakistani females.
