Fishermen stay ashore as storm threat looms

Though the day saw only light rain and drizzle, the fishermen were advised not to take chances and stay ashore.

The second spell of the monsoon spell coming from the Bay of Bengal entered Karachi on Friday in the form of showers, drizzle and light rain. Rain with thunderstorms is forecast till July 18.

The highest precipitation of 6.1 mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar.

The highest rainfall in rural Sindh was recorded at Dadu at 20mm.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, weather in the city remained hot and humid till Friday afternoon.

However, drizzle, rain and light rain started in different parts of the city in the evening. Light to moderate rainfall was recorded in Karachi Airport, Model Colony, Defense 2 Extension, University Road, Saddar, PIDC, Orangi Town and Nazimabad.

According to the Meteorological Department’s Heavy Monsoon Alert, the low pressure area is near the northeastern Arabian Sea and adjacent the Run of Kutch. The system is extending to southeastern Sindh.
