Sanam Saeed Wants Pakistani Artists to Have Their Own Identity

Pakistani actor Sanam Saeed recently spoke about why Pakistani artists should be known for their own talent instead of being grouped under the “South Asian” label. She shared her thoughts after attending the famous Cannes Film Festival in France. Sanam attended the event with Pakistani designer Hussain Rehar. She said the trip was very important because it gave Pakistan a chance to shine on an international stage. According to her, Pakistani artists should proudly build their own identity around the world.

The actor revealed that this was actually her third invitation to Cannes. She could not attend the first two times because of work and personal responsibilities. This year, even though she was busy caring for her young child, she decided not to miss the opportunity. Sanam explained that she was not promoting a movie or a luxury brand at the festival. Instead, she simply wanted to represent Pakistan. She said this honest and simple purpose helped people connect with her appearance at Cannes.

She also proudly shared that all of her outfits were made in Pakistan. Some of the dresses were handcrafted by women artisans from Bahawalpur. Designer Hussain Rehar also expressed pride in showing Pakistani fashion to the world. The famous star from Zindagi Gulzar Hai said she now wants to create more opportunities for herself and others. She hopes to produce stories that can travel globally while still showing Pakistani culture and emotions.

Sanam believes Pakistani family dramas are loved by audiences everywhere. She feels the industry only needs better presentation and new ideas to reach more international viewers. The actor also talked about changes in the entertainment industry. She said streaming platforms are giving artists more freedom to try different stories and characters. Her upcoming Netflix project, Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, is one example of this new direction.

Sanam praised filmmakers who are experimenting with fresh ideas. She mentioned the upcoming Pakistani zombie film starring Fahad Mustafa and said it is exciting to see the industry trying something different. The actress also warned that television should avoid promoting toxic behavior because repeated negative messages can influence society. She believes entertainment should help people and create positive change. Despite the glamour of Cannes, Sanam admitted the trip was not easy. She faced visa delays and managed everything with a very small team while also taking care of her child. Still, she said the experience was completely worth it because it allowed Pakistan to be seen on a global platform.
