Section 144 implemented in Murree for New Year festivities
Under Section 144, the authorities have the power to instruct individuals to cease certain activities or adhere to specific limitations (such as prohibiting gatherings, restricting access to certain areas, and limiting movement, among others). This can be directed at an individual or the general populace within a designated location (for instance, Mall Road or GPO Chowk in Murree).

During significant festivals, a considerable influx of tourists typically visits Murree. This year, the administration has implemented stringent restrictions. Access to Mall Road will be restricted, allowing only families to enter on New Year’s Eve. Bachelors and tourists without families will be prohibited from accessing Mall Road, GPO Chowk, and adjacent areas.
This decision has raised concerns and frustration among tourists, who have called on higher authorities to revoke Section 144. They recalled instances from previous years when tourists were reportedly mistreated and detained under the guise of Section 144.

The application of Section 144 during the holiday season has resulted in significant inconvenience, provoking strong reactions from both the public and social communities. As in past years, a large number of tourists from all over the country have come to Murree to ring in the New Year, but the abrupt enforcement of restrictions has caused distress, mental strain, and disappointment.
