Former employees create Twitter alternative called Spill

After Musk’s takeover, both Terrel and Brown were removed from the company and decided to create their own platform which is expected to launch in six to eight weeks.

The creators wanted to create a platform for diverse and minority communities, especially since their content and trends were either overlooked or stolen on popular sites like Twitter and TikTok. Terrell however, insists that Spill isn’t a web3 company.

In a conversation with Tech Crunch, he said, “I think this is really a platform issue. Even before I left Twitter, over the last several months, I was just talking to Black female creators, talking to Black queer creators and I’m like, ‘How do you make your money? Is any platform supporting you? Does the idea of Spill interest you?’”

Spill will use blockchain technology to see how posts go viral and compensate the creators behind them. The company has yet to decide on the revenue share between content creators and Spill, or what method they intend to employ to track how posts get ad revenue.

Similar to Twitter, the site will include a news feed where users can create and post ‘Spills’, they can also host online and IRL events called ‘tea parties’ which will win them in-app bonuses.
