Pakistan Launches Its First Official AI Avatar “Laila”

Pakistan has officially embarked on the era of AI-driven governance with the introduction of its inaugural government-supported AI avatar, “Laila,” which was revealed by the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication during a prominent technology event.

The announcement, made in front of senior government officials and industry leaders, marks Pakistan’s increasing ambition to establish itself as a rising AI-centric nation by incorporating artificial intelligence into governance, public services, and innovation ecosystems.

Federal Minister for IT & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja characterized the AI avatar as more than just a symbolic achievement, referring to it as a tangible move towards the integration of advanced technologies into daily life. The ministry stated that Laila will be utilized in educational initiatives, citizen engagement platforms, and digital public services.

This launch is in line with Pakistan’s National AI Roadmap, which sets forth ambitious goals such as training 1 million AI professionals by 2030, financing 1,000 AI startups, supporting 400 university-led AI projects each year, and creating 50 sector-specific AI models designed to address local challenges.

“Our government is committed to adopting artificial intelligence across all spheres of national life and ensuring Pakistan plays a leading role in the global AI economy,” the minister stated.

Laila is crafted as an interactive digital interface aimed at providing users with multilingual support, enhancing accessibility to digital services, and helping to close the digital divide by making AI-driven platforms more user-friendly for the general public. Industry experts in technology have praised this initiative, describing it as a significant transition from policy formulation to practical AI application.

“This initiative shows how AI policy can translate into public-facing impact. It’s a step toward building a future-ready digital Pakistan,” an industry analyst noted.

With this launch, Pakistan becomes part of an expanding group of nations that are utilizing AI avatars to enhance government communication and citizen services—signifying a significant milestone in the nation’s digital transformation journey.
