“I tried my best and Allah helped me,” Naseem Shah
Pakistan registered a stunning victory over Afghanistan and the heroics came from youngster Naseem Shah.
The Men in Green were in deep trouble as Pakistan lost wickets and were reduced to 109/7 after the 18th over. At that moment, Pakistan needed 21 runs from the last two overs.
In the 19th over, Pakistan lost Haris Rauf and Asif Ali with only Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain left at the crease.
Naseem Shah went into the final over and smacked two sixes in two balls to give Pakistan a historical victory.
Following the victory, Naseem Shah said that people will have to forget that he is only a bowler.
“When I came out to bat I had the belief that I could hit sixes. I knew that they would try to bowl yorkers due to the field they had set. I tried my best and Allah helped me,” said Naseem.
“I think today everyone will forget that I am actually a bowler,” he further claimed. “I said to the non-striker, let’s believe we can do this, we can score the runs. I changed my bat as I wasn’t happy with my bat and that worked”
“When I came out to bat, Asif Ali was out there so I thought I’ll take singles. But when he was out I knew that it was down to me to win this match,” he added. “I think most people thought we’d lost the match when we’d lost 9 wickets. But I had the belief that I could win the match as I practice a lot of hitting. No doubt this match will be unforgettable for me”
