‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ beats Bollywood films at global box office, says Indian analyst
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a 2022 Pakistani Punjabi-language action drama film directed and written by Bilal Lashari. It is an adaption of the 1979 Pakistani cult classic film Maula Jatt. Produced by Ammara Hikmat and Dr. Asad Jamil Khan under the production banner of Lashari Films and Encyclopedia. It is based on the characters and stories by Nasir Adeeb. The film stars Fawad Khan as the titular character with Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik and Mahira Khan. In the film, a local hero named Maula Jatt takes on a leader of a brutal gang, Noori Natt.
The Legend of Maula Jatt premiered at Cue Cinemas in Lahore on October 12, 2022 and was theatrically released by Mandviwalla Entertainment in Pakistan on October 13, 2022. The film was widely praised by critics for its direction, acting, musical score, action sequences and visual effects.[15] It has grossed over $5.2 million worldwide, surpassing Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2’s entire theatrical run in eight days and breaking numerous box-office records, including becoming the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time.
Meanwhile, Two Diwali releases, Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez’s Ram Setu alongside Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s Thank God, failed to attract an international audience. On the other hand, Indian film industry-s-financial analysts share their views over social media and said that Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan-starrer have managed to pull in more numbers on their 13th day than the aforementioned Indian films on their day of release.
“Ram Setu and Thank God at least managed fair collections on day one in India on account of the Diwali holiday, but both fared poor Overseas. Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt on 13th day is higher than both Bollywood films on their 1st day,” Nahta shared on Twitter.

Akshay Kumar on box office clash
In a very recent interview question has been asked to Kumar about the clash between Ram Setu and Thank God, He said, “There is no clash. Let’s not refer to it as that. They are two films, with different appeals, released on the same day. It’s happened in the past and it will happen in the future. Fans will choose to watch the one that appeals to them the most or better still, watch both. The main objective is for our fans to enjoy the festival at the movies with friends and family.”
Speaking about his film Ram Setu, the actor further said, “Ram Setu is very proudly rooted in Indian history and culture. On the factual side, the team has relied on deep research to represent what is true and bring out several unknown facts. On the spiritual, sentimental side, we have not only remained emotionally respectful, but I can assure you that the values and beliefs associated with Shri Ram and Ram Setu are being uniquely upheld.”
