Sidra Iqbal Is the Host On The Hot Seat of Mominas Mixed Plate

Have you ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a morning television host or to be the moderator during public political discourse? To be one of the most well-known journalists is no easy task. That’s why last week Momina Sibtain invited ace tv journalist and anchor Sidra Iqbal to the hot seat on Mominas Mixed Plate, and we couldn’t help but be engaged in the insightful conversation! During the discussion, Iqbal revealed her honest opinions on marriage, how she trains men vs. women in leadership positions, what advice she would give her 20-year-old self, and much more. With a poised and eloquent speaker like Iqbal and an energized host like Momina Sibtain, this conversation was surely a treat for all viewers as the two powerhouses had us glued to the screens from the get-go. We couldn’t wait to see Sidra Iqbal in a different light, and this episode certainly lived up to our expectations.

As the interview began, Sibtain went right into asking a ‘viewers choice’ question about Sidra Iqbal’s views on marriage. Sidra responded that she admired the sanctity and sacredness of the unions but pointed to the fact that people in our culture are rushed into getting married early which is a false dichotomy. She discussed how instead of worrying about the ticking clock we should ask the universe to open more doors for us so that the right decision can manifest itself and we couldn’t agree more!

When asked how she trains men and women in leadership positions, Sidra responded that sometimes the advice that is valid for men is not necessarily the best advice for women. She gave the example of how when a man in a leadership position is in a boardroom he’s always advised to build a consensus with people and let them feel heard. However, since women naturally have a higher empathy rate, they are discouraged from consulting several heads because it will make them seem indecisive. Further, Sidra stated the advice she would give to her 20-year-old self “I would advise my younger self to be grounded and know my own self-worth which requires a certain voice and that voice needs to be strong. All the people who are 20 yr olds take so long in looking for their voice until they realize that they can have a say in their life, often taking much longer than they need to.”

Sidra discussed how even when we talk about the financial inclusion of women, the truth is that women only started to earn for themselves 3-4 generations ago. She gave the example that every woman in her first job always underestimates herself and takes lower paychecks than she deserves. Iqbal then posed the sincere statement “A man’s struggle is with entitlement and with women it’s the opposite. Even when she is worthy they don’t know how to say it and ask for a raise. So that’s something I would advise every 20-year-old to be mindful of.”

This episode of Momina’s Mixed Plate was a must-watch with a superb guest in the chair. Sibtain has a lot more episodes coming up this season and we just can’t wait to see the next guest, Tuesday at 8pm!
