Meesha Shafi’s hijab-clad, deglammed first look from ‘Mustache’ is out

Taking to Instagram, the Muaziz Saarif singer posted a single shot from Imran J Khan’s latest directorial to tease her viewers. The picture shows Shafi draped in a headscarf and a beige coat, with an uneasy expression on her face. Behind her is a young teenager, who follows her lead and is looking in the same direction, adding more mystery to the plot.

She also added a caption to relay her sentiments about the project. “First look! So excited to announce that this beautiful film I did with so many beautiful and hardworking people has been selected in the ‘Narrative Feature Competition’ section at the prestigious SXSW this year!” penned Shafi.

The Waar actor then concluded her post by praising her colleagues. “Couldn’t have asked for a better team! You are all amazing,” expressed Shafi.

According to Deadline, up until now, Rizwan Manji, Atharva Verma, Ayana Manji, Shafi, Alicia Silverstone and Hasan have signed on to star in the largely autobiographical project.

Mustache reportedly follows Ilyas (Atharva), an eccentric 13-year-old boy who sets off to navigate the social hierarchy of his new California public school with a moustache his parents will not allow him to shave off. Rizwan will play Ilyas’ father Hameed, with the Mein singer playing his mother, and Ayana portraying his school friend, Yasmeen.

Aside from the aforementioned characters, Imran has decided to keep the roles of Alicia and Hasan a secret so far. Mustache is also set to release in cinemas in 2023.
